The luck in 'lucky loser' applies both to the LL themselves AND to their first round opponent. Heck, you can be sure Emma and her team recognized this as good luck at the time!
Oh, absolutely. It was definitely a piece of good luck.
I just think it was garden-variety rather than tremendous. :)

You do get the feeling that the 250 in Osaka (taking place the same week) would've been a better option
because of the rain delay last year ningbo actually upgraded facilities like adding a flexible cover for the main court and ningbo plays faster, also some of the top seeds might retire because of the b2b 1000s event, besides Emma's half Chinese she'll got home crowd there unless she's facing a Chinese opponent.

And how well she's holding up physically.
It will depend more on her result in Seoul. If she improves her run or at least defends her points with a few wins in each of Beijing and Wuhan she won't need Ningbo especially since she is playing Tokyo the week after. I think Ningbo in some kind of safety if she doesn't perform well in any of Seoul, Beijing, and Wuhan.

Emma is going to have a very full Asian swing if she doesn’t pull out anywhere. 🥰
Can someone remind us which tournaments she’s signed up for now?
Wuhan 1000, Ningbo 500 and Tokyo 500. I wish she'd gone for the Guangzhou 250, where the highest ranked player is Tatjana Maria so she'd probably end up being top seed, instead of Tokyo.

We still don't know if she's playing one of the 250's the week after Tokyo. I really hope she does.

I think Ningbo is some kind of safety net she isn't playing it for sure. I don't believe she'll play the week after Tokyo especially if she plays Ningbo. Her season is ending in Tokyo in my opinion she won't play 4 tournaments in 4 successive weeks. If she gets the seeding for AO it is good if not she'll still probably play in Auckland as a warm up for AO.

She said she wants to play against the top player outside slams so that she’d be prepared when she runs into them at slams.

It’s five successive tournaments, isn’t it, including Seoul and Beijing? If she can stay healthy, why not? She’s managing to get a lot of training in with Roig, while on tour. Getting top 24 seeding at AO won’t be easy. I think she now has the attitude that if she’s healthy then she should play as much as possible.
